The Chthonian (Organization)

The guild derives its name from its leader, an individual who resides deep underground in the Umbral chamber, from where they direct members of the guild to do their bidding. Each and every shadow is a place from which they can observe or speak in whispers, issuing orders.

In exchange for something they deeply desire, people can leave their firstborn child to the guild, relinquishing their child to the Cthonian's whims. Thus the members are part of the guild from birth, not knowing any other life.

On the rare occasion they might be willing to accept other forms of payment or even to provide certain items that are otherwise unobtainable.

As envoys, they break into abodes stealing seemingly irrelevant objects, oftentimes of little to no value, but all said to be connected to some unknowable, shadowy plan of their cruel master. Those that succeed are richly rewarded, those that fail are discarded one final time.
